Ross's Retort to JAMA's Attack on Nutritional Supplements

JAMA is one of the most widely read and respected medical journals. However, it recently published an article attacking nutritional supplements stating "During the past 2 decades, a steady stream of high-quality studies evaluating dietary supplements has yielded predominantly disappointing results about potential health benefits, whereas evidence of harm has continued to accumulate." Essential Formulas Science Director, Ross Pelton, retorted with a well-researched letter in response to JAMA.

Follow Up on The Groundbreaking Discovery of
Lactobacillus fermentum ME-3

On March 2, 1995 Professor Marika Mikelsaar isolated five strains of Lactobacillus fermentum from the intestinal tract of a healthy one-year old Estonian child. One of these strains, named Lactobacillus fermentum ME-3, was found to express extremely high antioxidant activity. Upon testing, ME-3 was found to synthesize glutathione. In January 2017, Dr. Ross Pelton, Scientific Director for Essential Formulas, decided to inquire about the current health of the individual who was the original donor now world-famous strain of probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus fermentum ME-3.

Merriam-Webster has officially added "microbiome" to the English dictionary, defining the noun as "a community of microorganisms (such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses) that inhabit a particular environment and especially the collection of microorganisms living in or on the human body."
