Exercise Increases Good Gut Bacteria
Healthy microbiome = Healthy life!
By Ross Pelton, RPh, CCN, PhD Scientific Director for Essential Formulas
There is increasing evidence that regular exercise promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria in the colon. This is important because over 99.9% of the probiotic bacteria in the human gut microbiome reside in the colon's anaerobic (non-oxygen) environment. This is where the vast majority of your all-important postbiotic metabolites are created when your probiotic bacteria ferment the fibers and polyphenols contained in the foods you eat. Read more...

Are you confused about what's happening with the NAC (N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine) issue?
You may have seen a lot of news lately about NAC. While the FDA took some regulatory action against a few companies making anti-hangover claims for this ingredient, there has been considerable "fogginess" as to whether this crucial amino-acid complex is "legal" for use in dietary supplements. As a quick background, N-acetyl-cysteine is a precursor for glutathione production in the body. It has been available as a single ingredient dietary supplement or an essential part of various formulas. NAC has been used safely by millions of people in the United States for over half a century. Our Reg'Activ® Formulas, Detox & Liver Health, and CardioWellness contain this beneficial ingredient to help boost glutathione production and support detoxification and cardiovascular health.
The dietary supplement and health food industry has urged the FDA to reconsider its ambiguous comments regarding the appropriateness of NAC as a dietary supplement ingredient. Unfortunately, those requests seem to have been lost to a large degree in rhetoric and unwillingness to review this ingredient's safety and long-term track record. The Council for Responsible Nutrition submitted a citizen's petition to the FDA, put "on hold." At the same time, the Natural Products Association has even taken legal action against the FDA for this reason.
Since we, at Essential Formulas, strongly support the continued inclusion of this ingredient in our products for the benefit of consumers, we urge you to contact your member of Congress about NAC -- please click here:
